That begins with having the necessary context, which is the aim of today’s report.
As we chronicle the decline of Western civilization, and marvel at all the ways that trust has been shredded across every institution, the question keeps emerging; What ties all of this together?
It could be that we’re a sensitive species and our collective consciousness is tuning into the end of the resource era that allowed us to bloom from 1 billion to more than 8 billion souls. That might be creating the neurosis and anxiety that plagues our culture even as living standards have never been as high as they are for so many people.
Or it could be that we have to rely on external forms of control and systems so that we can trust people we’ve never met and do not know to provide critical services for us.
Money is the root of our distributed system of trust and when your money is undermined, and revealed instead to be actually a poorly managed currency that is being abused by those in power to enrich themselves and their friends and colleagues, then all manner of downstream shenanigans breathe into life.
