In this week's Off The Cuff podcast, Chris and Mish Shedlock discuss:

  • Meaningless Metrics
    • Official data is so 'fuzzy' as to be useless now
  • AT&T/Time Warner merger & Snapchat IPO
    • Signs of excess seen at a bubble top
  • The Driverless Future
    • It's going to have a HUGE impact, especially on jobs
  • The Demographic Time Bomb
    • Pensions will start blowing up left & right

Amidst this wide-ranging discussion, Chris and Mish raise the warning that many people are unaware of, or underestimating, the impact that the near future of driverless trucks and cars will have on society. There will be some amazing benefits, but some very material societal costs, as well:

Mish:  Chris, I don’t know if you noticed this, but we have the world’s first commercial driverless delivery yesterday, did you see this?

Chris Martenson:  It was beer. I thought they picked a good substance.

Mish:  I think so too, 45,000 cans. One report said 50,000 cans, like 1,800 cases or something like that. I have people still insisting that this is not going to happen. And, we’re talking about something four or five years away here. But the impact on jobs is going to be staggering. We’re talking about millions of jobs that are literally going to vanish in a very short time frame.
