This week, Chris and Mish sift through the settling dust around Brexit, as well as discuss the larger global issue at the heart of the UK's "Leave" decision:
This is part of my larger theory: which is that the pie isn’t expanding like it used to. They have pumped all of this funny money into things. We have now gotten ourselves really far over the tips of our skis so that everything does hinge on the financial asset prices at this point because it has all become—the Ponzi bubble is really grotesquely inflated. And so the only thing I can take from this is that the plan, such as it is, is to continue to wield as much power as possible – to continue to juice the markets as much as possible and hope for something different to arise in the future.
But all that has happened—and this is the context of the Brexit vote—this is what needs to be talked about—what has actually happened ever since the Federal Reserve led the charge in 2008 to bail out the banks, all that has happened is the uber-wealthy have gotten even wealthier, there has been an extraordinary concentration of power and wealth across all sorts of dimensions—economic, political, social—and that has sucked the oxygen out of the lives of millions if not billions of people.
