Well, we’re back from the Renaissance Weekend and there is much to report.
The good news is that we made some excellent contacts and probably more than a few new friends. In attendance were members of Congress, governors, candidates for office, CEOs, entrepreneurs, comedians, more authors than you could shake a stick at, and lots and lots of managers of OPM (other people’s money).
I was deeply impressed with the level of drive and charity on display. These were, by and large, incredibly interesting, accomplished, and caring people, many of whom are doing incredible things. I have returned highly energized and motivated to take my work to another level.
I found several other very strong proponents of my work, but overall far too few. So the opportunity next year, should I return, would be to see if I could expand the number of people who are familiar with my work and its concepts by a factor of 10x or more.
I came to be on a first name basis with David Walker, former comptroller of the US and now Pete Peterson’s CEO for his foundation, and have an offer to come and meet with him at some point soon to discuss my work and how we might interact on future projects. A year ago his executive assistant rebuffed our efforts to make contact. That’s just how life goes.
It was my assessment that very, very few of the people whom I would characterize as “the movers and shakers” of this country (and world) are aware of the primary issues outlined in the Crash Course. Of course, David Walker made sure they were aware of the fiscal/budgetary aspects of our predicament, but I would bet a very large amount of money that fewer than half had heard of Peak Oil and fewer still were aware of its implications.
