Civil wars happen when two or more groups no longer see a way to settle their differences with discussion and compromise. That happens most frequently when ideologies no longer share any common ground.
“Oh, you believe men should fight women in Olympic boxing, well I don’t.” There’s no middle ground in those views. There’s no “sometimes that makes sense” position to grudgingly agree to.
Ditto for open, porous borders. Or sex change operations for minors without true and full informed consent. Or running completely illegitimate and fraudulent elections.
Or, or, or.
The list goes on and on.
But the biggest gap that I cannot see how to bridge comes to us from the abstractionists who want to bring us to socialism/communism. They are convinced this gets us to a better world. I am positive that it does the exact opposite.
The selection of Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, as Kamala’s VP running mate is quite telling. Tim has a long history of both being a huge fan of China having spent a good chunk of his life and formative years there, and he supports every cockamamie “progressive” position such as putting women’s hygiene products in men’s bathrooms or giving illegal immigrants driver’s licenses.
